I.A.E.S. NewsOctober 2009![]() Malahide C.S. 'Green Enterprise' Project Good luck to all those involved from Malahide Community School who are bringing their ‘green enterprise project’ to Denmark this month. I.A.E.S. were delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate to some pupils from Malahide C.S. how our green enterprise operates. If we all share the same enthusiasm as these students our country’s future will be in safe hands! September 2009 Vehicle Registration Unit (V.R.U.) The V.R.U. wish to repeat to all vehicle owners intending to dispose of their old/ unwanted vehicles that unless they receive a Certificate of Destruction the vehicle will remain in the owner’s name. They also want to repeat that the owner of the vehicle does not send their Vehicle Registration Certificate to the V.R.U. They should submit this to the Authorised Treatment Facility processing their car upon receipt of a Certificate of Destruction. For further clarification contact 01-8433444. Car Owners Beware! There have been a growing number of complaints from car owners who have reportedly given their vehicles to illegal operators posing as staff from Authorised Treatment Facilities. Remember never give your vehicle to anyone unless you are given a Certificate of Destruction (issued by the Department of the Environment). Any operator collecting an End-of-Life Vehicle must display their Waste Collection Permit number on all their vehicles. July 2009 Water Bugs & Car Recycling! The installation of a new Biological Tank is in the final stages at I.A.E.S. vehicle recycling centre. This new and innovative water treatment system cleans waste water by using ‘friendly’ micro-organisms that digest any potentially harmful pollutants and the cleaned water can be re-used on site. It’s just another example of how the people at I.A.E.S. are taking vehicle recycling to a higher level. June 2009 Dump the Dumper! The Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) has launched a 24hr call-save hotline (1850 365 121) where the public can report any illegal dumping or suspicious activity (information can be provided anonymously). It is in everybodies interest to report any illegal collecting or dumping of cars as even just one E.L.V. has the potential to cause untold environmental damage. The cost of cleaning up illegal dump sites ultimately falls on taxpayers! May 2009 Scrappage Scheme It appears that the government is not going to introduce a 'scrappage scheme' in Ireland. Recently, Germany and the U.K. have introduced scrappage schemes but it is argued that such a scheme leads to vehicles being disposed of 'prematurely' as people try to avail of scrappage deals. On the other hand it can be argued that it would lead to more fuel-efficient cars being put on the road. Whatever happens down the line, it is essential that a Certificate of Destruction be issued to the last registered owner of any vehicle that is 'scrapped' under any scrappage scheme. ![]() October 23rd 2008 Fingal Cleaner Communities Awards 2008- WINNER Congratulations to all at I.A.E.S.
